Game Description & Reviews:
California Raisins - Grape Escape is a platformer where you control one of the raisin dudes from a strangely popular raisin ad campaign pitch in the 1980's. The goal is to defeat bosses and collect golden musical notes in order to save your blue-jazz band mates so you can continue to be corporate pawns and sell raisins.
I know the game was technically unreleased but it appears to be a complete game. I never noticed anything that looked or felt unfinished.
Controls are responsive and include throwing grape goo for an attack, jumping, and...moonwalking? There is a variable jump as well as climbing via vines.
Music is actually pretty catchy. Vine climbing SFX is grating, though.
Graphics aren't too bad. The game makes heavy use of repeating designs and gets boring to look at pretty quickly, though. Bosses are top notch.
Gameplay is standard platforming with a few interesting almost puzzle bits thrown in. There are enemies that turn into blocks when hit so you have to line them up right, hit them, and jump on the blocks you create to move through some areas.
Overall, it isn't a terrible game but it isn't winning any awards, either.
