Game Description & Reviews:
Balloon Fight (USA) is a game that was developed and published by Nintendo. This game features characters with a set of balloons. Be careful not to get your balloons hit, or else you will fall.
Balloon Fight is possibly one of the best games that Nintendo released in its early 1985 set of NES games. It is played similar to Joust, but requiring even more finesse. Each character has two balloons, and therefore must be hit twice before dropping. Balloon Fight also allows 2-player simultaneous action, where it truly shines. Balloon Trip is a side-scrolling (right to left!) obstacle course that is also very fun and challenging. The sound, music, and graphics are of course primitive, but are not irritating.
I spent many a long hour playing this game with friends. It is a wonderful hidden gem among the early, NES games.
The player controls the unnamed Balloon Fighter with two balloons attached to his back. Repeatedly pressing the A or B buttons causes the Balloon Fighter to flap his arms and rise into the air. If a balloon is popped, the player's flotation is decreased, making it harder to rise. A life is lost if both balloons are popped by enemy Balloon Fighters, if the player falls in the water, gets eaten by the large fish near the surface of the water, or is hit by lightning. There are two modes of play: the 1-player/2-player game where the goal is to clear the screen of enemies, and Balloon Trip where the goal is to avoid obstacles in a side-scrolling stage.
