Game Description & Reviews:
Jurassic Park 2 for the Gameboy is a side scrolling shooter where you play as Dr. Grant trying to escape from the island. The controls are simple: left and right to move, up to aim your gun up, down to crouch, B to shoot, and A to jump (holding A will allow you to jump higher). The game is separated into zones, which has two levels each, with a boss dinosaur after both have been completed. To progress through the zones, Dr. Grant has to find all of the JP cards to unlock the exit gate. Finding them all will trigger a music change and once you've found the exit, you just need to walk up to it to end the level. The levels are varied slightly, with mostly platforming areas, but there are some swimming areas (gun becomes a harpoon) and even a boat level. The dinosaurs aren't always hard to kill, but they can appear from offscreen, and they respawn once out of sight.
The real difficulty/challenge of the game is the life system and the fact that there is absolutely no saving. You do get two continues if you die with one life left, but once all your continues are used up and you lose all your lives, it's game over, and you have to start over at the beginning of the game, regardless how far you got. It is a pretty short game, with only four zones (that's two regular levels plus one boss), two chase levels (running from a T-rex while picking up the JP cards), and one final boss. Still, it's a hard game; those chase levels especially can be buggers if you have never played it before. The game plays these tricks where you see two paths, one on top and one on the bottom, but one's a dead end, and if you take the wrong one the T-rex kills you and you have to start all over. There's also not much replay ability, unless you're trying to beat your score (once you're actually beating the game). Regardless, I'd still recommend this if you like Jurassic Park and side scrolling shooters. The music is also awesome, especially the last zone (which plays during the credits).
-get to shoot dinosaurs
-can be trial and error
